Course Objectives
By the end of the course, a participant will be able to:
- Identify components of person-centered care to guide clinical reasoning when assessing and treating people with neck pain.
- Develop psychomotor abilities relative to examination skills and treatment delivery for the person with neck pain.
- Integrate the skilled delivery of manual therapy and exercise prescription and within a person centered framework.
Course Description
This lab focused course will cover the current best evidence in providing a person-centered approach to orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) for the management of neck pain. There will be a combination of lecture and lab with a focus on integrating person centered clinical reasoning, safety/red flag screening, and hands on skill development in the examination and treatment of neck pain. Implementation of established Clinical Practice Guidelines with a focus on manual therapy and proper exercise selection, dosing and prescription will be discussed and developed throughout the course in both lab and lecture. This course will be beneficial to those who are new to management of the cervical spine as well as those who are proficient in this region as the course content and delivery is designed to provide a basic framework for novice clinicians and an opportunity for knowledge and skill refinement for the advanced clinician.

Christian Margeson PT, DPT, OCS, cert. MDT, FAAOMPT
After graduating from the University of New England, Christian practiced in Northern Maine at Cary Medical Center. He and his family relocated to Alabama in 1998. In 2007, he partnered with Advance Rehabilitation and opened a clinic in Ozark, AL.
